What our members have to say
My starting weight was 148kgs a year ago, this was the heaviest I have ever been and decided to get back into shape so I join the CLM gym Mt Wellington. As I was no stranger to weight training I thought I knew it all, then I met Will Tu’ipulotu (
I have currently lost 45kgs and feel fitter/ stronger than I was when I was 20. A real

I saw a photo of myself and didn't like what I saw, I was watching the biggest loser and thinking if they can do it I can, and knowing my family history makes it unsafe for me to be overweight were the catalyst to do something.
So I signed up for bootcamp. And I thought if I was going to do that I may as well look at the nutrition side too. So that's how it all started. Bootcamp was great for learning that I could push myself harder than I thought. But nutritionist Kate's advice has been critical in dropping the weight. Her advice was very practical and workable. The two main changes were reducing my portion sizes and making a few food choice swaps. I have lost 18k (and about 17cm each off waist, abs and hips) in just over a year. The change has been great, I feel fitter, healthier and better about myself. I have increased my exercise from 2-3 times a week exercise to 4-5 times a week. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I still have a couple of kilos to go but feel confident I can get there and then keep up the healthy regime. CLM members and staff have been great and very encouraging!
I am always getting supportive and positive comments from people which makes it all easier. So a big thanks to CLM staff - I hope my success will inspire others! Tania
Hi, my name is Mike. You may have seen me around the gym if you do your mahi early like I do. For some time I have been wanting to express my gratitude to the team at CLM Mt Wellington and if doing so in a testimonial can be of some benefit to them then so much the better.
I first staggered up the CLM steps to see whether anything could be done about my car wreck of a body. The athletic frame of my youth was but a distant memory and at 40 a decade of debauchery and gluttony had left me at 110kg with a huge keg and a prime candidate for some serious health issues.
A chance visit by Jaye Puia to my workplace (and a corporate deal) provided the impetus to do something about it. My first fitness test revealed what I already knew and I’m sure the team were checking their liability insurance very carefully as they ushered me quietly back out.
A programme of gentle cardio and easy weights ensued for several months while I gradually reminded my heart and lungs what they were for and conditioned my muscles for greater things. After about 6 months I was noticing some real benefits, with energy levels returning and power increasing. In fact when I look back at the weights I started with back then and what I do now I can hardly believe that such a change was possible.
The team was absolutely fantastic at that time, as they have always been and continue to be. I have to make special mention of Jaye, Shaun, Will, Amanda and Mel, who constantly encouraged me and were genuinely interested in my progress. They never got sick of my childish excitement at lifting another 5kg or hauling the belt in another notch (or if they did they understood I was a bit needy and hid it well!).
Only one thing was wrong – Fitness and strength were coming back as advertised but the gut wasn’t really going down. Enter nutritionist Kate.
I had some misgivings about this step because I knew it was going to be time for some serious honesty and well, frankly she’s not exactly Miss Plain Jane and the prospect of exposing my imperfect physique to her was a bit daunting. I shouldn’t have worried. Kate was 100% professional and very encouraging about my wobbly bits.
Nutrition proved to be the missing link and Kate was able to show me how to institutionalise healthy eating as part of my new lifestyle rather than as the latest dietary fad. Now all the planets came into line and the fat really started to fall off. My actual weight loss has stabilised now as muscle growth from the gym programme starts to take over but you can’t hide the slimness or the increasing bagginess of the pants!
At this point I also need to acknowledge Physio Doug who put me back together when I OD’d on running and crapped out badly. Having Doug available in the gym with his practical and no-nonsense approach is a godsend.
While I’m spreading all this love I should also mention the support and comradeship of my regular gym buddies who come in at the same time every morning. The little comments and encouragement that we share makes it all easier.
So why am I writing this when I paid them money and then did all the work? Because without them I wouldn’t have done all the work. Period. CLM Mt Wellington thank you for giving me my life back.
Regards Mike
I am 36 years old and to date I have lost 60kg in the last 8 months. The main reason I decided to loose the weight is a doctor told me I would be dead at 50 and I thought 14 more years is a bit short of a life span. After being on a diet for a month and the weight coming off, I decided to join a gym. CLM was my first choice as it is only a 10 minute walk from my home. I had my first consultation with Jaye and he put my mind at ease and I have been coming 4-5 times a week ever since. My only regret is that I didn’t do this 10 years ago. I can’t thank the team at CLM Health & Fitness enough, they made me feel welcome straight away. So if you are thinking of joining a gym, I can’t recommend it enough. Wayne
